Work you’ll do

  • Advise on and participate in the matters of the OGC.
  • Primary: advise on legal and regulatory issues involving the application of Malaysia law; lead and support negotiations in a broad range of commercial contracts such as local, regional and global engagement arrangements, confidentiality agreements, alliances, referrals, teaming and sub-contracting arrangements, and tenders.
  • Secondary: provide support in contentious matters; and support the OGC and/or coordinate with external counsel where necessary in advising on, drafting of, reviewing and negotiating commercial matters.
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of legal policies, rules and guidelines, precedent bases for SEA and support the development of Deloitte Asia-Pacific.
  • Remain updated on legal developments that affect or potentially affect the wider Deloitte network and continue to develop best practices tailored to Deloitte’s business needs.
  • Travelling will not be frequent but may be required from time to time.
     

A candidate of the right aptitude will also be given exposure to the following areas and have the opportunity to develop subject-matter expertise in one or more of the following: regulatory engagement, multi-jurisdictional commercial arrangements, inorganic growth, regulatory advice, and/or investigatory/contentious work.

Requirements

 

Experience and Skills:

  • 5 to 8 years of relevant post-qualification experience in a reputable law firm, with a strong foundation in high quality corporate and commercial or contentious work; and/or experience in a good in-house legal team. 
  • Having experience only in contentious work is not a barrier but we expect such a candidate to show willingness and aptitude to adapt to corporate and commercial matters.
  • Ability to apply (read, write and speak) legal Malay.
  • Collegiality, professionalism and responsiveness are necessary.
  • Ability to work independently in advising, drafting, reviewing and negotiating.
  • A good appreciation of risk management and commercial concerns.
  • Ability to engage effectively with different people across different seniorities, expertise, roles and culture.
  • Versatility in thinking and a good appetite for learning.
