Work you’ll do:
The Data Platform Engineer is responsible for building and operating the data pipelines and platform components that underpin Deloitte Government and Public Services' data engagements on Snowflake and/or Databricks — spanning hands-on delivery through to ownership of detailed technical design and day-to-day technical leadership within a delivery team. This is a hands-on engineering role with a strong focus on reliability, data quality, and adherence to client security and data-handling requirements.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Build and maintain data pipelines (batch and streaming) that ingest data from a wide range of source systems into Snowflake and/or Databricks.
- Design and implement data models, transformations, and data quality checks within the platform (e.g. using dbt, Spark, SQL) — translating architecture and solution design into detailed technical design and build standards.
- Configure and manage orchestration, scheduling, and monitoring for pipelines (e.g. Airflow, ADF, Databricks Workflows, Snowflake Tasks/Streams).
- Implement access controls, security configuration, and cost/performance optimisation within Snowflake and/or Databricks environments, including client-specific compliance requirements where applicable — e.g. Government on Commercial Cloud (GCC) deployment patterns, the SGTS SHIP-HATS CI/CD toolchain, and IM8 security policy controls.
- Structure and expose clean, well-documented data products that support downstream AI-driven and agentic workflows (e.g. feature stores, vector databases, APIs consumed by LLM-based tools).
- Apply Deloitte and/or government reference architectures to day-to-day build decisions, flagging gaps, conflicts, or the need for a new pattern to the Data Platform Architect.
- Troubleshoot data issues across the pipeline — connectivity, transformation logic, performance — and resolve them independently; review the work of and unblock more junior engineers.
- Write clean, tested, version-controlled code and documentation; follow CI/CD practices for deployments.
- Act as day-to-day technical point of contact within the delivery team, working closely with project technical leads to implement designs faithfully and flag technical constraints or better alternatives as they arise.
Your role as a leader:
At Deloitte, we believe in the importance of empowering our people to be leaders at all levels. We expect our people to embrace and live our purpose and shared values, challenging themselves everyday to identify issues that are most important to our clients, our people and the communities, and to make an impact that matters. In addition to living our purpose, Consultants across our Firm are expected to:
- Understand the goals of Deloitte, align our people to these objectives by setting clear priorities and direction by establishing a positive relationship with a senior stakeholders.
- Influence teams, and individuals positively. Lead by example and provide equal opportunity for people to grow, develop and succeed.
- Delivers exceptional client service. Maximizes results and drives high performance from people while fostering collaboration across businesses and geographies.
- Manage diverse teams within a highly inclusive team culture where people are respected and valued for their contribution.
- Develop high-performing teams through challenging and meaningful opportunities and recognize them for the impact that they make.
- Business Development - Participate in all aspects of the proposal development cycle; contribute to the development of proposal technical content; participate in the development of sales presentation or market positioning material.
- Engagement Management - Manage a project or program team; develop work plans for the engagement; determine the client needs by selecting and applying appropriate approaches, tools, and techniques to the client's business.
- Practice Development & Eminence-- Participate in the development of market-valued intellectual capital; contribute to the development of practical solutions and methodologies; participate in third parties and partners relationship building.
Requirements:
- 3–10 years in a data engineering and/or technical leadership role, with genuine hands-on delivery experience on Snowflake and/or Databricks (not just exposure).
- Strong SQL and Python skills.
- Experience with ELT/ETL tooling (e.g. dbt, Fivetran, Airbyte) and orchestration tools (e.g. Airflow, ADF, Databricks Workflows).
- Familiarity with cloud environments and core services (storage, IAM, networking basics as they relate to data platforms) — AWS experience is a plus given prevailing government cloud environments, though Azure or GCP experience is also fine.
- Understanding of data modelling concepts (dimensional modelling, medallion architecture) and version control.
- Comfortable working from reference architectures — applying an existing Deloitte or government reference architecture, and, at the more senior end of the range, flagging where one needs to be built out or reconciled.
- Exposure to plugging data pipeline outputs into AI services or agentic workflows (e.g. feature stores, vector databases, APIs consumed by LLM-based tools) is a strong plus.
- Exposure to Singapore's public-sector technology environment is a plus but not required — e.g. Government on Commercial Cloud (GCC), IM8 security policy basics, or the SHIP-HATS CI/CD toolchain. Willingness to learn government security and compliance requirements on the job is welcomed.
- Comfortable working directly with clients or embedded in a client delivery team; comfortable acting as day-to-day technical point of contact for delivery leads and stakeholders.
Certifications (preferred)
- Any of the following looked on favourably:
- SnowPro Core and/or SnowPro Advanced
- Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate and/or Databricks Certified Data Engineer Professional
- Relevant cloud architecture certification (AWS preferred; Azure/GCP also recognised)
